Job summary

Port of Oakland is hiring a Port Permit Coordinator in Oakland, CA. The role administers and coordinates the permit applications and issuance process for Port tenants and private property owners, serving as the primary point of contact for permit applicants and coordinating reviews with multiple Port departments.

Responsibilities include guiding applicants on procedures and fees, coordinating with regulatory agencies, and ensuring compliance with building codes and Port policies.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in planning, architecture, civil engineering, public administration or a related field.
• Three years of increasingly responsible experience in permit processing, planning, zoning, plan checking, building inspection, or engineering work, with at least one year serving the public.
• Experience with Americans with Disabilities Act and Federal Aviation Administration compliance is highly desirable.
• Must possess a valid California Class C driver license.
• Successful completion of TSA background check, CHRC and STA as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary point of contact between applicants and Port departments regarding permit requirements and status.
• Guides applicants on permit procedures, required documentation, design standards, and fees; communicates permit fees.
• Coordinates reviews with Port departments and regulatory agencies to expedite permit issuance.
• Maintains and updates the Port’s online permit application system and standards.
• Schedules pre-application meetings and technical review sessions to facilitate timely approvals.
