Job summary

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Example of Duties

Under the general supervision of the Port Operations, Safety & Security Manager or other designated supervisor, the Port Maintenance Foreman functions as a working foreman for Don Young Port of Alaska maintenance operations. This position plans, assigns, schedules, leads and monitors the work of assigned maintenance personnel engaged in the maintenance, repair, inspection, and operation of Port facilities, waterfront infrastructure, petroleum-related systems, heavy equipment, vehicles, mechanical systems, electrical components, hydraulic systems, and related operational infrastructure.

The position coordinates daily and weekly work assignments, supports preventive maintenance planning, assists with training, reviews timecards, and work records for accuracy, supports on-call scheduling and after-hours response coordination, assists with contractor coordination, and special projects, and performs skilled maintenance work as needed to support safe, reliable and continuous Port operations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in the field related to the position, three (3) years of which must have been in a lead position.

  • A valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tank (N) endorsement at time of hire.
  • A satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • A satisfactory drug screening at time of hire.
  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
  • Forklift Operator Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) within 45 days of hire.

Military Service Interview Preference

The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
