Job summary

APTIM is seeking a Port Services Project Engineer in Mobile, AL or Charleston, SC to inspect, analyze, and design port infrastructure such as cranes, piers, and wharves. You’ll work with a team of structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers on condition assessments, retrofits, and new installations across Gulf and Atlantic coasts, using RISA, Mathcad, and AutoCAD.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
  • PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • 10+ years of progressive structural or mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience with cranes or heavy marine infrastructure preferred.
  • Proficient in RISA, Mathcad, AutoCAD; familiarity with Bluebeam/Autodesk Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural/mechanical inspections of cranes and port assets to assess condition and deficiencies.
  • Develop repair, retrofit and new design drawings and calculations for steel and concrete structures.
  • Perform structural analysis using RISA/Mathcad; support design reviews.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure scope, schedule and quality goals.
  • Engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated port solutions.
  • Contribute to proposals, cost estimates and technical scopes.
  • Balance office design work with field assignments (10–25% travel).
  • Mentor junior engineers and inspection staff as the office grows.
