Kirby Inland Marine is seeking a Port Engineer responsible for all maintenance and repairs of vessel equipment. The role involves dockside problem-solving, major shipyard repairs, and scheduled and unscheduled repairs.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and coordinate shipyard repairs.
- Oversee USCG/ABS inspection evaluation for re-certification and related repairs.
- Conduct USCG inspections for SIP Program.
- Resolve problems with barge equipment.
- Survey and oversee major planned and unplanned repairs.
- Prepare data sheets, SIP papers, and work orders.
- Collaborate with vendors, management, and customers daily.
- Handle special duty assignments as requested by management.
- Perform routine and non-routine maintenance of barges.
- Monitor and verify contractor work.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Problem-solving skills dockside, working directly with M&R office staff.
- Good organizational skills and adaptability to changing schedules.
- Decision-making ability and good judgment.
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, climb aboard vessels, maneuver in tight spaces, and climb vertical ladders.
- Proficiency in operating field trucks, tools, SCBA, ultrasonic testers, safety equipment, and 10-key. Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer relations skills.
- Expertise in barge repair, remedial, and scheduled shipyard work.
- Knowledge of computer software.
Additional Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of related experience in the barge and tankering industry.
- Ability to pass USCG chemical drug testing, physical exams, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Work hours are typically 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with on-call rotation and some travel required.
