Job description

Quality Assurance Representative/Port Engineer

Job Category: Engineering | Time Type: Part time | Minimum Clearance Required to Start: Secret | Employee Type: Part-Time On-Call | Percentage of Travel Required: Up to 100% | Type of Travel: Local

Provide on-site ship availability program management (PM) and technical support to Military Sealift Command (MSC) vessels. MSC’s vessels are scheduled to enter shipyard availabilities for various maintenance, installations, and modifications.

Contractor shall work with the Availability Management Team (AMT) to accomplish specific tasks for assigned work items.

Assist in observing, verification, and reporting on engineering requirements related to maintenance, repair, and modification of vessels. The CQAR will provide observations, reports, and recommendations to the Principal Port Engineer (PPE).

Provide technical services for engineering development and documentation, including support in naval architecture, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and marine engineering. Work packages and studies will support vessels and upcoming availabilities, offering solutions for replacement, repair, upgrades, or improvements.

Responsibilities:

The contractor shall perform the following related to assigned work items:

  1. Observe, monitor work performed by shipyard personnel to verify adherence to work package requirements and ABS/USCG regulations. Verify installations, interfaces, test procedures, test results, and compare to specifications and drawings.
  2. Review shipyard production activities in piping, steel, aluminum fit-ups, weld inspection, and gauging. Make determinations on plating and piping replacement requirements and provide recommendations to PPE. Review structural drawings and documents to ensure proper materials are used.
  3. Provide daily written status reports on assigned work items to PPE and periodic verbal updates throughout the day.
  4. Attend Quality Assurance Checkpoints and report concerns to PPE.
  5. Perform daily rounds walking the ship to observe and monitor work processes, quality, and progress on assigned work items.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ability to speak/write English
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Ability to travel CONUS/OCONUS for 2-4 months at a time
  • Physical ability to walk the entire ship, including ladders and tanks
  • Knowledge of ship construction, metal work, and auxiliary systems

  • Experience in metal work, rust identification, piping systems
