Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool and surrounding areas. The role emphasizes creating a safe, positive atmosphere to promote member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies.

The position requires Lifeguard certification (YMCA or ARC), current BLS and First Aid/ Oxygen Administration certifications, and the ability to perform emergency procedures and maintenance responsibilities.

Qualifications

• YMCA Lifeguard or ARC Lifeguard certification is required.
• Current ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications (or equivalents).
• Maintain certification and training as required; 16+ years age minimum.
• Lifeguard skills must be demonstrated per YMCA standards.
• Background checks and screenings may be required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains safe swimming conditions and constant surveillance of pools.
• Responds to emergencies per YMCA procedures and completes required reports.
• Maintains positive relationships with members and staff.
• Adheres to safety policies and guidelines for pool and aquatic areas.
• Performs maintenance, cleaning, and equipment checks as assigned.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Complies with all YMCA policies and procedures.
• Supports other areas as needed and completes assigned projects.
