Job summary

YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure the safety of all pool patrons under supervision. You will work with staff to welcome and engage members while maintaining vigilance and following emergency procedures.

The role requires ages 16+, CPR/First Aid/AED certification, YMCA lifeguard certification or Red Cross transfer, and completion of required trainings. You will enforce pool rules, perform chemical checks, and participate in center operations.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old (15 with work permit) and hold YMCA lifeguard certification or transfer from Red Cross within 6 months.
• CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification required.
• Complete trainings including NEO, Bloodborne Pathogens, CAP, and Sexual Harassment.
• Background and Child Protective Services checks required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain 180-degree scanning of pool at all times.
• Enforce pool rules in a fair and consistent manner.
• Respond to emergencies per YMCA policies and Emergency Operations Plan.
• Maintain equipment and records per state health code and YMCA standards.
