Qualifications

  • Formal training in polysomnography or enrollment in a CAAHEP/CoARC polysomnography program
  • Enrollment in or completion of A-STEP online self-study modules
  • Staff must complete at least 10 hours/year of sleep-related CE credits
  • 1 year of relevant experience; 1-3 years preferred
  • CR T-Polysomnographic Technologist certification (RPSGT/CPSGT) required or NBRC registry on hire
  • NBRC Respiratory Therapist Registry required on hire or equivalent
  • BLS certification required on hire (AHA/ARC)

Responsibilities

  • Provide polysomnographic evaluation and treatment for sleep disorders under supervision
  • Deliver diagnostic and therapeutic sleep services and patient education
  • Supervise other sleep staff as needed
  • Support daytime sleep studies for night-shift patients per physician orders

Job description

About the Unit

Corewell Health Sleep Center is a 16-bed outpatient facility that can accommodate patients of all ages, including infants and children. Our team of sleep experts includes board-certified physicians and nurse practitioners for adults and children. Six rooms are dedicated to pediatric patients to support children from infancy on, along with their parents and guardians. Three of those rooms have cribs. Day tests are performed at the facility (MSLT and MWT) and we can accommodate patients (night shift workers) for daytime sleep studies according to physician orders. We provide studies of all types of Home Sleep Apnea Testing (with exclusion criteria) and PAP/NAP (compliance diagnostic assessment). We treat patients’ infants and up and are the only sleep center on this side of Michigan that caters to infants.

Scope Of Work

A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the Medical Director and designee (department director/manager/supervisor) to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide supervision of other staff.

Qualifications
  • Required Formal training in polysomnography program and/or enrolled in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option OR enrolled in or have completed the A-STEP online Self Study Modules.
  • Required non-registered technologists and technicians must complete A-Step online Self Study Modules within two years of enrollment.
  • Required All technical staff must participate in at minimum 10 hours per year (averaged over three years) of sleep-related continuing education credits.
  • 1 year of relevant experience 1-3 years Preferred
  • CRT-Polysomnographic Technologist - BRPT Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists RPSGT or CPSGT
  • Upon required Or CRT-Respiratory Therapist Registry - NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care Upon Hire required
  • Or CRT-REGISTERED_SLEEP_TECHNOLOGIST-ABSM #N/A Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Upon Hire required
  • Or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Upon Hire required
