Job summary

Corewell Health’s Sleep Diagnostic - Grand Rapids Hosp seeks a polysomnographic technologist student/trainee to evaluate and treat sleep disorders and perform diagnostic sleep testing. Under mentorship, you will handle order interpretation, patient hookup, monitoring, BLS duties, and CPAP initiation/titration.

The role supports a full-time evening shift with 36 weekly hours, working 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., Sunday to Tuesday or Wednesday to Friday, at SITE - 4100 Lake Drive, Grand Rapids.

Qualifications

• Required High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred Associate's Degree.
• Preferred enrollment in or completion of A-STEP or STAR modules or ASETEP/CAAHEP/CoARC polysomnography program.
• Familiar with sleep medicine and progression toward certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.
• Perform diagnostic sleep testing including order interpretation and patient hook-up.
• Initiate and titrate CPAP; oxygen administration and related duties.
• BLS responsibilities and patient monitoring.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Associate's Degree

A-STEP or STAR designated online Self Study Modules or in preparation for certification exam OR ASETEP didactic education program OR CAAHEP/CoARC polysomnography program with polysomnography option

Familiar with the field of sleep medicine with progressive completion of an A-STEP or CAAHEP program

CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC

CRT-Polysomnographic Technologist - BRPT or CRT-Respiratory Therapist Certification NBRC

Scope of work

Under the mentorship of a registered polysomnographic technologist, the polysomnographic tech student provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders and performs diagnostic sleep testing, including but not limited to order interpretation, medication administration, patient hook-up and monitoring, BLS responsibility, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) initiation and titration, oxygen administration and other related duties.

Qualifications

• Required High School Diploma or equivalent
• Preferred Associate's Degree
• Preferred Currently enrolled in or have completed the A-STEP or STAR designated online Self Study Modules or in preparation for certification exam OR completed ASETEP didactic education program OR in a formal polysomnography program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option.
• Familiar with the field of sleep medicine with progressive completion of an A-STEP or with CAAHEP program Preferred
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
• CRT-Polysomnographic Technologist - BRPT Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists 1 Year required or CRT-Respiratory Therapist Certification - NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care 1 Year required
