Job summary

Sinclair Community College is hiring part-time (adjunct) Political Science faculty for day, evening, online and weekend courses at Dayton, Mason, and Centerville campuses. Starting pay is per credit hour and set by College policies.

Applicants must reside in Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky or be able to work within these states; transcripts and background checks are required prior to hire. The department seeks qualified instructors to deliver engaging courses and support student success.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in political science or a Master’s with 18 graduate credits in political science.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • Ability to use modern educational technology and multimedia instruction.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for a community college setting.
  • Official transcripts and background check are required.

Position Summary

The SinclairPolitical Science Department explores the study of government, politics, and power in all its forms—local, national,and global. Political Science examines how societies organize authority, make collective decisions, and resolve conflict through political institutions, processes, and ideas. Governments establish, administer, and enforce the rules, regulations, and programs that shape the lives of citizens, and they vary widely in structure, legitimacy, and effectiveness.

Sinclair is currently seeking part-time (adjunct) faculty for day, evening, online and weekend courses at our downtown Dayton campus, Courseview campus in Mason, OH and Centerville campus.

The starting pay for Adjunct Faculty is $1,046 per credit hour assigned to teach. For the full list of available courses to teach, please explore our coursecatalog .

This position is open only to applicants who reside in Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky, or who are able to perform work within one of these states. Sinclair Community College restricts part-time employment to approved states due to employment, tax, and benefits compliance requirements.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning
  • Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with department and divisional policies
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, use available instructional technology when appropriate
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students’ needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promote learning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters according to established deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Adjunct Faculty cannot be assigned to teach more than the maximum of 12 credit hours per semester
Requirements
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in political science or a master’s degree with at least 18 semester credit hours of graduate coursework in the content area is required.
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work successfully in a community college environment
  • Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educational technology, including multimedia-based instruction
