Job summary

Sinclair Community College is seeking part-time adjunct Philosophy faculty to teach day, evening, online and weekend courses at our downtown Dayton campus, Courseview in Mason, and Centerville campus. The starting pay is $1,046 per credit hour assigned to teach, and applicants must reside in Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky or be able to work within those states.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in philosophy or a master’s degree with at least 18 semester credit hours of graduate coursework in the content area is required.
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning
  • Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies with instructional technology
  • Modify instructional methods to meet diverse students’ needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters by deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Cannot exceed 12 credit hours per semester

Position Summary

The Sinclair Philosophy Department provides students the opportunity to analyze and thoughtfully respond to the fundamental questions that arise from the full range of human experience. These include questions about the nature of reality, justice, truth, meaning, good, evil and morality. It involves both questioning one’s assumptions about the world and self and constructively piecing together consistent worldviews.
Sinclair is currently seeking part-time (adjunct) faculty for day, evening, online and weekend courses at our downtown Dayton campus, Courseview campus in Mason, OH and Centerville campus.
The starting pay for Adjunct Faculty is $1,046 per credit hour assigned to teach. For the full list of available courses to teach, please explore our course catalog.
This position is open only to applicants who reside in Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky, or who are able to perform work within one of these states. Sinclair Community College restricts part-time employment to approved states due to employment, tax, and benefits compliance requirements.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning
  • Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with department and divisional policies
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, use available instructional technology when appropriate
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students’ needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promote learning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters according to established deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Adjunct Faculty cannot be assigned to teach more than the maximum of 12 credit hours per semester
Requirements
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in philosophy or a master’s degree with at least 18 semester credit hours of graduate coursework in the content area is required
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work successfully in a community college environment
  • Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educational technology, including multimedia-based instruction
