Job summary

The City of Charlotte's CMPD is recruiting a Police Trainee to enter the CMPD Academy and complete Basic Law Enforcement Training to become a sworn officer. Trainees will engage in a structured, field-supported program with hands-on patrol, investigations, and community policing.

You will prepare reports, meet training standards, and progress through field training, with oversight by a field training officer.

Qualifications

• Possess High School Diploma/GED.
• Be at least 20 years old.
• Be a U.S. Citizen.
• Have not committed or been convicted of any Felony offense or serious Misdemeanor offense.
• Have not committed or been convicted of DWI or DUI in the preceding five years.
• Pass entry level written examination.
• Complete entry level physical ability assessment.
• Must be able to wear a gas mask and pass an OSHA fit test.

Responsibilities

• Participates in a structured law enforcement training academy.
• Participates in a field training program with a field training officer.
• Meet training requirements established by NC CJ&TS Commission and CMPD.
• Performs entry-level law enforcement work under close supervision.
• Prepares and maintains logs, records, reports and files.
• Keeps assigned tools and equipment in good working condition.
• Work with community leaders on crime reduction projects.
• Assist in developing crime reduction programs.
