Job summary

City of Gardena is recruiting a Police Trainee to participate in civilian police training and to attend a POST-certified basic academy. The position is non-sworn during the training phase, with the goal of becoming a Police Officer upon academy completion.

Under supervision, the trainee will perform law enforcement preparation activities and related duties, with opportunities for testing and progression through the steps after successful training and evaluation.

Qualifications

• Age 21 years at time of appointment to Step 1.
• High school graduation or equivalent GED.

Responsibilities

• Receive civilian police training and attend a POST-certified academy to become a sworn Police Officer.
• Perform non-sworn police-related tasks during non-academy hours under supervision.
