Job summary

The City of Charlotte seeks a Police Trainee to enter CMPD's rigorous training tracks and complete Basic Law Enforcement Training to become a sworn officer. Trainees work under close supervision while learning patrol, investigation and protective duties as part of a structured academy program.

Applicants must meet NC BLET or active NC certification requirements, and may follow one of three academy tracks with progressive evaluation and certification steps.

Qualifications

• Completion of BLET or active NC law enforcement certification.
• Must meet NC CJSTC training requirements.
• Candidate must pass background and physical tests.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a structured law enforcement training academy.
• Engage in field training with a field training officer.
• Meet all training requirements by NC CJSTC and CMPD.
• Perform entry-level law enforcement work under close supervision.
• Prepare logs, records, reports and files.
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe condition.
• Collaborate with community on crime reduction projects.
• Assist in developing crime reduction programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
