About This Opportunity

Perform specialized clerical and technical duties processing police records and reports. Responsibilities include receiving and processing data in various database systems, researching and reviewing judicial and legal documents for accuracy and compliance, and working according to established standards with some discretion in work methods and scheduling.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Take crime reports from the public by telephone or in person, following established protocols;
  • Type or perform data entry for files and records;
  • Operate various computer equipment to maintain records;
  • Process subpoenas and court-related documents;
  • Type reports and transcribe police reports;
  • Search databases for information needed by patrol or investigation personnel;
  • Provide information to visitors and the public according to policies and procedures;
  • Adhere to City policies, procedures, and safety practices;
  • Attend work regularly at the scheduled time and place;
  • Support process improvement initiatives;
  • Perform related work as required;
  • Receive visitors, calls, and provide departmental information requiring technical knowledge.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED, plus at least two years of clerical and administrative experience;
  • OR any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities.
Special Requirements
  • Ability to obtain Iowa NCIC certification within six months of appointment.
Work Schedule

Wednesday to Saturday, 2pm – midnight. Days off are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Compensation

The starting hourly rate is $22.96, with a step increase on anniversary. The 7/1/2024 steps are:

  • New Hire: $22.96
  • 1 Year: $25.05
  • 2 Years: $26.98
  • 3 Years: $27.49
  • 4 Years: $27.97
  • 5 Years: $28.93

Additional pay includes a shift differential of $0.40/hour for hours between 2:30pm and 8:30am, and longevity pay after 5 years of service.
