Job description

Primary Purpose Of Position

This position performs law enforcement work at a University campus or other State facility. With full powers of arrest, the officer enforces the laws of the State and the United States Government. Responsibilities include traffic control, criminal investigations, patrolling an assigned area, responding to complaints or calls, detecting violations, apprehending violators, investigating violations or complaints to assess and handle cases, collecting and preserving evidence with chain of custody, testifying in court proceedings, and performing related work.

Classification Type: EHRA. Recruitment Salary Range: $57,000 – $72,748. Classifications: Police Officer I–III and Master Police Officer I–III. FLSA: Non‑Exempt. Appointment Type: Permanent – Full‑time. Position Number: EPA3140. Open until filled. Calendar: Open Date 07/20/2026. Organization: Operations – Patrol Division, Asst VC Bus & Fin/Police Administration.

Minimum Requirements
  • Police Officer I: High School diploma or GED, first‑time certification as a commissioned LEO in North Carolina. Successful completion of the agency’s field training program for newly appointed campus police officers is required.
  • Police Officer II: At least 2 years of prior experience as a sworn enforcement officer.
  • Police Officer III: At least 4 years of prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer.
  • Master Police Officer I: At least 6 years of prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer (or equivalent). A graduate or Juris Doctor degree reduces the minimum experience requirement by 1 year.
  • Master Police Officer II: At least 3 years of experience as a Master Police Officer or equivalent within an outside law enforcement agency. Equivalent experience at a higher sworn supervisory rank will also be accepted.
  • Master Police Officer III: At least 6 years of experience as a Master Police Officer or equivalent within an outside law enforcement agency. Equivalent experience at a higher sworn supervisory rank will also be accepted.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced training or certification related to law enforcement, investigations, or community policing.
  • Experience in university or campus policing environments.
Remote / Hybrid Work Eligibility

On‑site. Employees must reside in North Carolina within a two‑hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
