Job Responsibilities:
  1. Enforce all local, state, and federal laws within the City of Westerville under the supervision of a sergeant or lieutenant.
  2. Perform patrol duties on foot or in police vehicles to protect persons and property.
  3. Investigate complaints, interview suspects and witnesses.
  4. Respond to emergency calls for assistance.
  5. Conduct criminal and vehicle crash investigations.
  6. Perform traffic enforcement duties and routine security inspections.
  7. Conduct searches and seizures, complete detailed reports, and make arrests when necessary.
  8. Use firearms as necessary and maintain all required equipment.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Correctable vision to 20/20, no color blindness.
  • Valid Ohio Motor Vehicle Operator's License with no excessive violations.
  • Successfully passed all examinations and completed Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA).
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work varied shifts.
  • Applicants do not need to be OPOTA certified to apply.
