Job summary

The Gila River Indian Community seeks a Police Property and Evidence Technician in Sacaton, AZ. You will manage the chain of custody, store and inventory evidence, and assist in releasing items for court or testing, while ensuring safety and compliance.

You will perform duties including labeling, cataloging, securing evidence, and destroying narcotics per policy. Requires high school diploma or GED and tribal driving permit eligibility.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal, state, and tribal laws and regulations.
• Police procedures for impounding and safekeeping of property.
• Computers and software proficiency.
• Basic firearms operation knowledge.
• Modern photography techniques and equipment including video.
• Ability to follow handling, retrieval and disposal procedures.
• Ability to store, secure and account for sensitive property.
• Ability to work independently and with integrity.

Responsibilities

• Receives, catalogs, labels, and safeguards chain of custody for evidence.
• Ensures safe handling of hazardous materials and proper disposal.
• Releases evidence to authorized personnel as needed.
• Reviews security controls and alarms; makes recommendations.
• Conducts property and evidence inventories for accountability.
• Updates guidelines to address legal changes affecting storage.
• Destroys narcotics and unclaimed firearms per procedures after authorization.
• Locates owners and returns property as directed.
• Attends training to stay current on issues; performs related duties.
