Job summary

Town of Gilbert is seeking a Police Property and Evidence Technician to receive, store, and maintain security of confiscated property, evidence, and vehicles in a warehouse environment. You will uphold chain of custody per laws, ordinances, and department policies.

Responsibilities include inspecting submitted items, indexing records, coordinating transport to laboratories, and processing disposal as required. On-call duties and coordination with police personnel are essential to the role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3 years of relevant experience in a law enforcement environment or related field.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
• On-call duties for after-hours response as needed.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Observes and inspects submitted property & evidence to ensure compliance with packaging and submission standards; verifies, tags, marks, and documents chain of custody and stores each item.
• Ensures incoming items are properly packaged, labeled, cataloged, and recorded in the records management system before acceptance.
• Prepares and indexes forms, processes into the electronic document management system, and coordinates with external laboratories for evidence transport and receipt of results.
• Processes media evidence duplication requests and distributes to appropriate agencies and personnel.
• Handles disposal authorization forms for returning, destroying, auctioning, or retaining items per state retention laws.
• Communicates status to internal personnel, prosecutors, other agencies, and citizens; participates in after-hours on-call duties.
