Job summary

County of Kaua'i Police Department Headquarters seeks a Police Evidence Custodian. You will receive, store, and issue police evidence and found property, maintain records, and ensure chain of custody using the RMS system.

The role requires a high school diploma, 1 year of clerical experience, and 2 1/2 years handling evidence and property. A Hawaii driver’s license is required and firearms qualification may be applicable. Work Monday through Friday at the Police Department.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
• 1 year of clerical experience required.
• 2 1/2 years of work experience in handling evidence and property required.
• Possession of a valid Hawaii motor vehicle operator's license (Hawaii type 3 or equivalent).
• Firearms qualification may be required depending on position.

Responsibilities

• Receives, stores, and issues police evidence and found property.
• Maintains evidence and found property records and reports.
• Enters items into the Records Management System (RMS) for tracking.
• Releases evidence only to authorized persons and ensures chain of custody.
• May testify in court to verify chain of custody and condition of evidence.
