You will assign work, oversee staff, handle court-related evidence presentation, coordinate disposal or auction of items, perform quality checks, and maintain accurate records and documentation across evidence operations.

Qualifications

  • Combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and three and one half (3 ½) years of work experience in handling evidence and property.
  • Experience performing clerical tasks and using office equipment including computers, Microsoft Office, and other technologies.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Hawaii type 3 or equivalent) and firearms qualification as applicable to the position.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the receipt, storage and transfer and disposal of police evidenc e and other property; ensures proper accountability with chain of custody requirements.
  • Instructs and assigns work to subordinates and assists in evaluating their performance; secures evidence and property.
  • Coordinates viewing of evidentiary items requested by attorneys or other governmental or private agencies; releases and disposes of evidence as authorized.
  • Performs quality assurance check on evidence data; appears in court to testify to chain of custody and evidentiary procedures.
  • Deposits or transports evidence to designated sites; coordinates auction and/or destruction of property.
