Job summary

AlphaGov is seeking an experienced Plumbing Estimator to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial and industrial plumbing and process piping projects. The role requires hands-on estimating experience, strong interpretation of technical drawings, and a thorough understanding of costs, materials, labor, and installation methods.

• 5+ years in commercial/industrial plumbing estimating.
• Experience estimating plumbing systems and process piping.
• Experience with plumbing, mechanical, or MEP contracting.
• Ability to read blueprints and MEP drawings.
• Knowledge of labor and material pricing and installation methods.
• Proficiency with estimating software and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, bids, and budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and installation costs on commercial and industrial plumbing projects.
• Review blueprints, MEP drawings, specs, and bid docs to determine scope and perform quantity takeoffs.
• Identify scope gaps, potential cost overruns, and project risks before submitting bids.
• Request and evaluate quotations from suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to develop competitive pricing.
• Coordinate with general contractors, engineers, suppliers, and trade partners to clarify project requirements.
• Evaluate project specs, systems, and installation methods to ensure estimates cover full scope.
• Prepare pricing for change orders and maintain bid documentation and cost records.
• Review estimates for accuracy and completeness before final submission.

The ideal candidate has hands-on plumbing estimating experience, strong technical drawing interpretation skills, and a thorough understanding of construction costs, materials, labor, and installation methods.
This role requires the ability to independently evaluate project requirements, perform detailed quantity takeoffs, obtain supplier pricing, and prepare comprehensive bids that support profitable project execution.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, bids, and budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and installation costs on commercial and industrial plumbing projects
• Review blueprints, MEP drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope and complete accurate quantity takeoffs
• Identify scope gaps, potential cost overruns, and project risks before submitting bids
• Request and evaluate quotations from suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to develop accurate and competitive pricing
• Coordinate with general contractors, engineers, suppliers, and trade partners to clarify project requirements and resolve estimating questions
• Evaluate project specifications, system requirements, and installation methods to ensure estimates cover the full scope of work
• Prepare pricing for change orders and maintain organized bid documentation, cost records, and historical estimating data
• Review estimates for accuracy and completeness before final submission

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in commercial or industrial plumbing estimating
• Direct experience estimating plumbing systems, process piping, or related installations
• Previous experience working for a plumbing, mechanical, or MEP contracting company
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plumbing layouts, MEP drawings, and construction specifications
• Strong understanding of construction labor costs, material pricing, installation methods, and estimating practices
• Proficiency with construction estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to independently prepare estimates and competitive bids

Important Qualification: Direct commercial or industrial plumbing estimating experience is required. Residential-only estimators and general construction estimators without relevant plumbing experience will not qualify.
