Qualifications

Role Description

The Plumbing Design Engineer role is a full-time hybrid position based in Berlin, MA, with a mix of in-office and work-from-home flexibility. Day-to-day responsibilities include designing plumbing and water supply systems for various building types, preparing layout drawings, calculations, and equipment schedules, and coordinating designs with mechanical, electrical, and other building services disciplines. The role involves reviewing project requirements and codes, producing construction documents, and supporting the development of specifications. The Plumbing Design Engineer will attend coordination meetings, respond to RFIs, assist with design revisions during construction, and collaborate closely with project managers and other engineers to deliver accurate, code-compliant designs on schedule.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of Plumbing and Plumbing Design, including system layout, sizing, and equipment selection.
• Experience with Water Supply systems, domestic water distribution, and related building services.
• Understanding of Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) design principles and their integration within building services.
• Familiarity with relevant plumbing codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., IPC, local/state regulations).
• Proficiency in CAD and/or BIM tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) for preparing plans, details, and schedules.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings and coordinate multidisciplinary designs.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
• Previous experience in consulting engineering or building design projects is beneficial; professional licensure or progress toward licensure is a plus.
