Job summary

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking a Plumber And Steamfitter I to install, repair, and maintain plumbing, steam and HVAC systems across campus, ensuring reliability and safety of critical facilities.

Responsibilities include supervising lower-grade staff, following Massachusetts codes, reading plans, and performing preventive maintenance, with an on-site, Monday–Friday schedule from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Qualifications

• Current Massachusetts Plumbing and Gasfitting License/Journeyman.
• Possess a current, valid Class D driver’s license.
• Experience as a journeyman plumber.
• Ability to obtain asbestos abatement credentials within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of Massachusetts Plumbing and Gas Codes and safety practices.
• Ability to read plans and supervise helpers.

Responsibilities

• Instructs and mentors staff in operation and maintenance of plumbing, steam, and HVAC systems.
• Responds to tests, troubleshoots and repairs plumbing and steam systems.
• Performs preventive maintenance and uses diagnostic equipment.
• Drives a motorized vehicle around campus to various buildings.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains pipes, valves, pumps, and fixtures; estimates labor and materials.
• Supervises lower-grade employees and coordinates with contractors.
