Job summary

Austin Industrial is seeking a PLC Control Technician to install, program, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain automated control systems at our on-site facilities. You will support production by diagnosing issues, implementing corrective actions, and optimizing automation processes.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Controls, Electronics, Electrical Technology, Automation, or related field.
  • Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, Siemens, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital I/O, instrumentation, motor controls, and automation.
  • Knowledge of VFDs, sensors, relays, actuators, and industrial networks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and control systems in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Good problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with engineering, maintenance, and operations to support production goals.
  • Valid Driver's License.

The PLC Control Technician is responsible for installing, programming, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining automated industrial control systems and manufacturing equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role supports production by diagnosing control system issues, implementing corrective actions, and optimizing automation processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and commission PLC-based control systems, HMI interfaces, and associated industrial automation equipment.
  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs using ladder logic and other industry-standard programming methods.
  • Design, update, and maintain Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screens to improve operator functionality and process monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and control system components, minimizing equipment downtime and production interruptions.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and test sensors, transmitters, actuators, motor controls, drives, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  • Diagnose and resolve issues involving analog and digital I/O systems, communication networks, and industrial automation hardware.
  • Support installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial networking infrastructure, including Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, and related communication protocols.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on automated equipment and control systems.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to improve system performance, reliability, and production efficiency.
  • Assist with automation upgrades, system expansions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with plant safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable electrical codes and regulations.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, program changes, maintenance records, and system configurations.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands‑on experience in Industrial Controls, Electronics, Electrical Technology, Automation, or a related field.
  • Experience with major PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, Siemens, or equivalent systems.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital I/O, instrumentation, motor controls, and industrial automation principles.
  • Knowledge of VFDs, sensors, relays, actuators, and industrial communication networks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and control system issues in a fast‑paced industrial environment.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with engineering, maintenance, and operations personnel to support production goals.
  • Valid Driver's License.
