Job summary

Packsize is seeking a PLC/Controls Engineer in Louisville, KY to manage and sustain multi-platform PLC codebases (Codesys, B&R, Siemens) and develop new code addressing obsolescence and safety needs. You’ll read schematics, troubleshoot, and mentor junior engineers while traveling to customer sites as needed.

The role emphasizes hands-on coding in structured text, experience with industrial Ethernet, version control, and AGILE development practices within a packaging automation environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in ME, EE, CS, or similar.
• Motion physics and advanced motion control programming.
• Experience with high-level OOP languages (Python, C, C++, C#) and IEC 61131-2/PLCopen ST.
• Experience with Git/SVN for code management.
• Industrial Ethernet (EtherCAT, PowerLink).
• Knowledge of closed-loop control strategies and safety programming.
• Experience with Codesys, Siemens, and B&R Automation Studio.
• Familiar with agile product development.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot.

Responsibilities

• Manage and sustain PLC code bases for various industrial controls platforms.
• Develop high level OOP structured text code in Codesys, B&R Automation and Siemens.
• Commission new machines with servo drives and sensors.
• Help architect code and maintain repositories.
• Document control application designs.
• Program automation applications and test plans.
• Estimate implementation effort for automation projects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application issues.
• Track and report project status (Azure DevOps, Confluence).
• Travel to customer locations to resolve problems.
• Mentor other engineers.
