Job summary

The Play & Learn Staff member at YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area provides direct care and supervision for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years in a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment. This role supports children’s development through age-appropriate activities while building positive relationships with families.

Staff demonstrate professionalism, inclusivity, and adherence to YMCA values, ensuring a high-quality youth experience and a positive member experience for families.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of six months experience with children aged 6 weeks to 12 years.
• Strong desire and ability to work with children.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen Certification (will provide upon hire).
• Ability to communicate clearly with children, parents, and coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant, active supervision of children at all times to ensure safety and well-being.
• Greet children and families warmly at arrival and departure, supporting a positive member experience.
• Lead and support age-appropriate, structured activities that encourage development and engagement.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment and equipment.
• Communicate professionally and regularly with parents and guardians.
• Follow program policies, safety procedures, and licensing requirements.
• Model inclusive practices for all children to feel safe and welcomed.
• Adhere to YMCA values and report any abuse or misconduct promptly.
