Job summary

North is seeking a senior Platform Engineering leader in New York City to guide the platform that powers product teams. You will report to the VP of Engineering, shape the team as it scales, and hire and develop managers as needed.

The role balances delivering reliable software with deep technical depth and shaping the platform as a product. You will drive self-service tooling, guardrails over gates, and incident readiness, while collaborating with product and customer-facing teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering and leadership of multiple teams.
• 5+ years managing engineers and scaling organizations.
• Experience running on-call and incident response to improve reliability.

Responsibilities

• Lead Platform Engineering team and drive career development.
• Collaborate with VP of Engineering on scaling the organization and manager growth.
• Treat the platform as a product: build self-service tooling with guardrails.
• Turn incidents and questions into platform improvements affecting existing services.
• Hire for growing platform teams and ramp up new engineers quickly.
• Translate charters into plans and manage risks early.
• Ensure specs and designs guide work and teams operate what they ship.
• Strengthen reliability practices, including on-call and observability.
• Align platform work with product and customer needs and tradeoffs.
