North.Cloud is hiring for a Platform Engineering leadership role in New York City. You will lead the Platform Engineering team, partnering with the VP of Engineering to scale the organization while shaping the platform as a product with shared patterns and self-service tooling for North’s engineers.

The role demands 10+ years in software engineering and 5+ years of managing engineers, with strong backend, infrastructure, or data systems experience and a track record of delivering reliable

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering, including leadership of multiple teams
• Deep hands-on experience in backend, infrastructure, or data systems
• Clear view on platform engineering to enable other teams via standardization and self-service
• Track record of delivering commitments without heroics
• Experience running on-call and incident response, improving reliability
• Strong writing and communication skills across audiences

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow Platform Engineering across the team
• Collaborate with VP of Engineering to scale the team and structure
• Treat platform as a product with golden paths and self-service tooling
• Turn incidents and recurring questions into platform improvements
• Hire for platform teams and ramp up new engineers
• Translate team charters into actionable plans and commitments
• Ensure work starts from clear specs and designs and maintain released services
• Strengthen reliability practices including on-call and observability
• Coordinate with product and customer-facing teams to align platform work with business needs
• Balance long-term platform investment with near-term product needs
