Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Austin seeks a Sr Lead Software Engineer to help design, build, and evolve a proprietary Java framework built on Spring Boot, with a focus on scalability and security.

You will own release strategies, drive test automation, lead code reviews, and collaborate across global platform teams while aligning with enterprise AI-assisted engineering practices and cloud CI/CD tooling.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
• Significant Java engineering experience with framework or platform library development.
• Strong understanding of Spring Boot internals and application context.
• Experience building test automation for library/framework code.
• Understanding of semantic versioning and multi-version support strategies.
• Experience with containerized applications and runtime systems (JVM/GC).
• Experience leading effective use of AI-assisted development tools and code reviews.
• Strong system design skills for long-lived architectural decisions.
• Hands-on cloud CI/CD tooling (Terraform, Spinnaker) and IaC concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain a proprietary Java framework built on Spring Boot—starters, auto-configuration, and integration with standard libraries.
• Own and evolve the framework versioning and release strategy across multiple active major versions.
• Build and maintain the test automation strategy for the framework: unit, integration, and contract tests.
• Conduct rigorous, high-quality PR reviews and raise the technical standard of the team.
• Own the team's approach to containerized delivery and image strategy interactions.
• Contribute to shared platform services and understand the full build-to-runtime flow.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices with validated outputs and security controls.
• Apply core SDLC tooling knowledge to improve automation and efficiency.
• Participate in global platform design discussions and represent Austin's perspective.
