Job summary

JPMorganChase in Austin seeks a Sr Lead Software Engineer for Platform Engineering to drive a proprietary Java framework built on Spring Boot, supporting thousands of downstream teams. You will lead versioning, testing strategies, and AI-assisted practices while shaping platform services and containerized delivery.

You will collaborate with global teams, mentor engineers, and shape architectural decisions with a focus on security, scalability, and long‑lived impact in a cloud-native environment.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
• Significant Java engineering experience with depth in framework or platform library development.
• Strong understanding of Spring Boot internals — auto-configuration, bean lifecycle, and context interactions.
• Experience building and maintaining test automation for library/framework code.
• Understanding of semantic versioning and multi-version support strategies.
• Solid experience with containerized applications and container runtimes.
• Experience leading use of approved AI-assisted software development tools.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain a proprietary Java framework built on Spring Boot — starters, auto-configuration, dependency management, and integration with standard libraries for messaging, data, and observability
• Own and evolve the framework versioning and release strategy — supporting multiple active major versions simultaneously while managing consumer migrations
• Build and maintain the test automation strategy for the framework: unit, integration, and contract tests
• Conduct rigorous, high-quality PR reviews — explaining the why behind feedback and raise technical standards
• Own the team's approach to containerized delivery — including framework integration with managed container images and image strategy
• Contribute to shared platform services — understanding the full build-to-runtime picture
• Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery speed
• Applies knowledge of SDLC toolchain including Terraform and Spinnaker for cloud CI/CD
• Actively participate in global platform design discussions, representing Austin's perspective
• Diagnose and resolve cross-cutting issues in the framework layer
• Apply system design principles with long-lived consequences
