Job summary

Humana is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to design and build the platform and API layer that connects AI capabilities, data systems, and product frontends. You will set standards for secure, scalable services and own architectural decisions across the AI product stack.

You will contribute to full-stack features with TypeScript and Next.js, shaping backend services and security patterns while guiding the engineering team toward robust production operations.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with backend and platform focus.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python for API and service development.
• Experience building scalable REST or GraphQL APIs and security patterns.
• Working knowledge of HIPAA requirements and PHI data handling.
• Experience with Next.js and React for full-stack contributions.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and LLM coding harnesses.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead development of core backend services, REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Establish authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and audit logging patterns.
• Define patterns for integrating AI capabilities into product APIs.
• Build logging, monitoring, and alerting infrastructure.
• Contribute to product features end-to-end using TypeScript and Next.js.
• Drive architecture reviews and backend engineering standards.
