Job summary

CSL Plasma in Indianapolis seeks a licensed medical professional to evaluate donor suitability for automated pheresis, administer immunizations, and provide limited emergency care. Qualifications

  • Active state licensure from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, naturopathic training program or medical school required
  • Completion of a foreign allopathic or osteopathic medical school and only if also currently licensed as a physician or EMT certification where applicable
  • Minimum of one year experience in a health care environment or one year of clinical experience from a vocational or nursing institution
  • Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred
  • Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc.
  • Ability to instruct donors, staff and community regarding the benefit of plasma donation programs

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for evaluation of donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures.
  • Administration and supervision of approved immunizations other than red blood cell immunizations.
  • Provides limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including administration of medication or treatments.
  • Promotes positive customer relations with all donors.
  • Conducts confidential and effective interviews with donors to obtain necessary information regarding suitability to donate plasma.
  • Responds to medically related questions from staff with Center Medical Director/Center Physician.
  • Performs medical history reviews and health assessments on donors.
  • Assesses results of donor screening and laboratory tests to determine donor suitability.
  • Notifies and counsels donors regarding reactive test results; refers donors for follow-up.
  • Explains informed consent to applicant donors including risks, immunization schedules, and consent signatures.
  • Handles medical emergencies at the Center per SOPs; maintains emergency kits.
  • Reviews test results and determines continued donor suitability; manages four-month approvals and grace periods.
  • Assesses signs and symptoms that may lead to inability to continue donating.
  • Manages hepatitis B and influenza immunization programs at the center.
  • Oversees donor immunization programs and reviews antibody titers as required.
  • Maintains accurate donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work environment and adheres to HSE/OSHA policies; participates in internal audits.
  • Maintains confidentiality of personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas; bilingual skills may be required.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education

State licensure in paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, naturopathic training, or medical school
Foreign medical degree with current physician license or EMT certification (where applicable)
Minimum 1 year health care experience or clinical training from vocational/nursing program
Bilingual skills may be required
