Job summary

CSL is seeking a phlebotomy technician to perform pheresis procedures and plasma collection in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines, including donor setup, monitoring, and disconnect.

Responsibilities include venipuncture, evaluating donor vein performance, educating donors about plasma-derived products, ensuring donor safety, recording incidents with PDA, donor flow management, calibrations, and data entry in the donor information system.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 18 months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, donor monitoring and donor disconnect.
• Performs venipuncture to begin pheresis process per SOPs and FDA guidelines.
• Evaluates vein performance of the donor to identify problems; makes corrections to expedite donation and ensure product quality and donor safety.
• Educates new donors on therapeutic products from donated plasma, screening processes, tests, appointment system, fees, center policies, nutrition, and other information; answers questions promptly.
• Maintains alertness to donor reactions and assists or notifies staff as needed.
• Uses PDA to record incidents during pheresis, such as machine alerts, volume variances, and adverse events.
• Provides guidance and training on processes and procedures to staff as required.
• Monitors donor flow on the floor to ensure continuous turnover and addresses backlog.
• Performs calibrations and verifies maintenance per SOPs; responds to complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
• Troubleshoots equipment failures, documents incidents, and replaces equipment as needed.
• Changes supply lot numbers in the donor information management system when new lots are issued.
• Supports center management with staff scheduling and resolves minor donor relations and procedure issues.
• Ensures accurate recording of donor data in the donor information management system as per SOPs.
• Understands policies related to hyper immune programs at the center if applicable.
• Maintains a clean, efficient work environment and ensures supplies and forms are available; follows HSE and OSHA policies; promotes safety.
• Maintains confidentiality of personnel, donor, and center information.
• May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
• Bilingual skills may be required at organizational discretion.
