Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services in Waterloo, IA is hiring a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) on a part-time basis. You will determine donor eligibility, manage donor safety, review test results, and work under the Center Manager and Center Physician guidance to support plasma center operations.

The role requires an active LPN/LVN license, CPR/AED certification, and at least two years in a clinical or hospital setting, with additional FDA training and IV therapy qualification preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of a recognized nursing program with state requirements.
• Licensed or certified in the state of responsibility: LPN or LVN.
• Current CPR and AED certification.
• Fulfill state IV therapy requirements where applicable.
• Complete FDA-approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education and self-exclusion, medical history interview, physical exam, and SPE review.
• Evaluate donor reactions and manage medical emergencies per SOPs; rely on Center Physician standing orders.
• Refer to Center Physician or Medical Affairs for concerning medical or technical issues.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
• Manage employee incidents and determine need for occupational health evaluation; follow EHS guidance.
