Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services is seeking a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) in Ames, IA. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered. This role supports plasma center operations and donor care in a fast-paced environment.

You will determine donor eligibility, manage adverse events, coordinate with physicians, and participate in vaccination programs, incident management, and pandemic response as needed, ensuring top-notch donor safety and service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; or graduate degree from a recognized nursing program meeting state requirements.
• Current licensure or certification in the state of assignment (LPN or LVN).
• Current CPR and AED certification.
• Fulfillment of FDA-approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• At least two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self‑exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and review of SPE.
• Manage donor adverse events and evaluate donor reactions according to SOPs, developing Center Physician standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
• Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings and provide guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
• Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER, referring to EHS guidelines.
• Serve as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community.

You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and perform as a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to support plasma center operations.

What You Bring to Takeda

• Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy.
• Completion of FDA‑approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• At least two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

U.S. hourly wage range: $24.32 – $33.44
