Job summary

Airgas is hiring a Loader in Lansing, MI to operate equipment for handling and producing packaged gas cylinders, including high-pressure and cryogenic vessels. The Plant Operator ensures safety, reads cylinder labels, and maintains accurate paperwork with DOT, FDA, OSHA compliance.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading, sorting, forklift movement, cylinder preparation, and quality checks. Strong safety awareness and teamwork are essential for a fast-paced environment where accuracy matters

Qualifications

• Requires ability to safely operate a forklift (training may be provided).
• Strong verbal and written communication to ensure team alignment.
• Ability to read MSDS and maintain a secure environment.
• Collaborates effectively with a diverse team.
• Proven customer service skills and safety awareness.
• Self-motivated, detail oriented and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
• Good numerical ability for basic calculations and unit conversions.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
• Physical ability to maneuver on the plant floor and operate equipment safely.
• Adequate vision, depth perception and hand-eye coordination for safe handling.
• Capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and moving heavier loads with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload gas cylinders and products from trucks and trailers using carts.
• Sort empty cylinders by type and prepare cylinders for filling.
• Operate a forklift to move cylinders on pallets.
• Read cylinder labels and color codes to verify contents and safety labels.
• Prepare high-pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling and venting.
• Maintain clean work areas and perform basic cylinder maintenance (painting, labeling).
• Inspect cylinders prior to filling per government and Airgas standards.
• Record-keeping and paperwork for DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards.
• Perform safety checks and odor tests as required.
• Comply with all safety regulations for hazardous materials handling.
