Job summary

Airgas, an Air Liquide company, is hiring a Plant Operator in Rockford, IL. The role involves safely operating equipment for handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, including high pressure and cryogenic vessels.

You will load, label, inspect, and move cylinders, while maintaining stringent safety standards. Qualified candidates typically have a HS diploma and experience in manufacturing operations; forklift experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in manufacturing operations; filling or loading experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with gas, welding, safety supply or chemical industries valued.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets (MSDS).

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment for handling and production of packaged gas cylinders (high pressure and cryogenic).
• Load and unload cylinders onto/off trucks and trailers.
• Sort empty cylinders by type to maintain workflow.
• Roll cylinders and operate forklift for movement on pallets.
• Label cylinders accurately and inspect for hazards.
• Prepare high pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling.
• Attach to manifold and evacuate cylinders to remove contaminants.
• Perform basic cylinder maintenance (paint, label, clean work area).
• Inspect cylinders prior to filling and conduct safety checks per procedures.
• Coordinate documentation to DOT, FDA, OSHA and Airgas standards.
