Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Clinton, NC is seeking a General Manager to lead a large site, directing operations, safety, quality and budget performance in line with company policies.

You will manage plant labor, materials and processes, develop the leadership team, and ensure the facility delivers safe, high-quality products while contributing to the bottom line. Travel 10% and weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Business or related field; 8+ years' plant management experience.
• Minimum of 2+ years' leadership experience in team development.
• Manufacturing knowledge of yields, plant efficiencies, and operations procedures.
• Solid understanding of OSHA, USDA and Food Safety regulations.
• Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft software.
• Ability to work with and lead a diverse workforce.
• Travel up to 10% and willingness to work nights/weekends.
• Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establishes achievable goals and follows up on progress, positive or negative.
• Trains and coaches supervisors to recognize opportunities and impact on operation.
• Tracks progress of yields, labor, and related expenses.
• Identifies opportunities and implements solutions.
• Ensures operation is cost- and budget-conscious contributing to the P&L.
• Ensures efficient and profitable operations by conforming to specifications and procedures.
• Trains, manages, and directs all support staff activities including HR, Safety, QA, Accounting and Maintenance.
• Enables plant to operate within Smithfield's standards and ensures consistency across operation.
• Facilitates a profitable operation that produces safe quality products efficiently.
• Ensures approachability and support to all levels of employees.
• Maintains open communication at all times.
• In the absence of the General Manager, completes or delegates all required tasks.
