The Plant Mechanic performs responsible mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of three ozone generation water treatment plants, one re-pump facility, and one wastewater treatment plant. This work is performed under close supervision – the incumbent is assigned duties according to specified procedures and receives detailed instructions; work is checked frequently through observation, adherence to established policies and procedures, and results achieved.

High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of two years of experience in plant mechanics/maintenance or a related field.
Note: All certifications must be current at the time of application and maintained as a condition of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License, Class E or higher. Must have a current FWPCOA Class “C” Wastewater Collection certification and a Florida DEP Level 3 Water Distribution System Operator license or the ability to obtain both within 1 year. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
This is heavy work requiring exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds repetitively. Work involves climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping. Ability to ascend/descend stairs, scaffolds, and ladders. Ability to work in confined or difficult-to-reach spaces and manipulate objects with small, precise movements.
Tasks may expose to adverse conditions including weather, sun, extreme temperatures, odors, dirt, dust, loud noises, and chemicals.
Tasks require manipulation of objects, detection of environmental features, and effective communication.
