Job summary

Focus is seeking an experienced Industrial Maintenance Technician to join our Birmingham, AL production team. You will install, inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic equipment to keep the facility running safely and efficiently.

The role requires reading diagrams, performing preventive maintenance, fabricating parts with shop tools, and supporting GMP practices. Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays is expected to ensure continuous plant operations.

Qualifications

  • GMP compliance experience and familiarity with 21 CFR Part 110 or GMP practices.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical capability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficiency with reading schematics and performing preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble machinery including motors, conveyors, and packaging equipment per diagrams and specs.
  • Diagnose root causes of mechanical issues by listening to equipment and observing operation.
  • Inspect parts with precision tools and replace worn components as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, lubrication, calibration, and performance testing.
  • Set up and troubleshoot production line controls and basic electrical tasks as required.
  • Fabricate or recondition parts using metalworking tools (lathe, drill press, grinder).
  • Requisition replacement parts and maintenance supplies in a timely manner.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Maintenance Technician to join our production team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic machinery to ensure efficient, safe, and continuous facility operations.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Maintenance & Equipment Repair
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble complex machinery, including electric motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and packaging equipment, following diagrams, schematics, manuals, and manufacturer specifications.

  • Observe and listen to operating equipment to diagnose root causes of mechanical issues and differentiate between equipment failure and operator error.

  • Inspect, measure, and evaluate used parts for wear or deformation using precision instruments, including calipers, micrometers, rules, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.

  • Repair or replace worn, defective, or structural components using hand, power, and specialized precision tools.

  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks, including equipment cleaning, lubrication, performance testing, and system calibration.

  • Set up, adjust, and troubleshoot code-dating equipment and production line controls.

  • Perform metalworking, welding, and cutting tasks using shop equipment such as lathes, drill presses, and grinders to fabricate or recondition required parts.

  • Assist with basic facility and industrial electrical maintenance as required.

  • Requisition necessary replacement parts, components, and maintenance supplies.

Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Adhere strictly to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) in accordance with 21 CFR Section 110 standards.

  • Participate in required food safety and operational training programs; promptly report any potential safety hazards or food safety issues.

  • Follow all company safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), proper PPE usage, and hazardous material handling.

Qualifications & Work Environment
  • Work Schedule: Must be available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support continuous plant operations.

  • Physical Demands: Requires the physical capability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and lift/move up to 50 lbs regularly.

  • Core Skills: Proficiency with hand/power tools, precision measurement equipment, mechanical troubleshooting, and basic metalworking/welding.
