Job summary
Placements24 is seeking an Industrial Engineer specialized in plant layout and facility design in Welkom, Free State. The role focuses on optimizing the physical arrangement of production equipment, workstations, and material flow to boost efficiency, safety, and throughput.
You will design, implement, and improve layouts while collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years of experience with CAD and simulation
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years experience in industrial engineering with a focus on plant layout and facility design.
- Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools such as AutoCAD/SolidWorks.
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, material handling, safety standards and ergonomic principles.
Responsibilities
- Design and redesign plant layouts to optimize material flow and space utilization.
- Create 2D/3D models and simulations of proposed layouts.
- Analyze equipment requirements, workstation configurations and line balancing.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations and safety teams to ensure safe designs.
- Conduct ergonomic assessments and implement improvements for safety and comfort.
- Specify equipment and infrastructure requirements for layouts.
- Manage layout projects including planning, budgeting and contractor coordination.
- Maintain plant layout documentation and databases.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Support commissioning and validation of new equipment and lines.
- Identify automation opportunities and implement related layout changes.
