Placements24 is seeking an Industrial Engineer specialized in plant layout and facility design in Welkom, Free State. The role focuses on optimizing the physical arrangement of production equipment, workstations, and material flow to boost efficiency, safety, and throughput.

You will design, implement, and improve layouts while collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years of experience with CAD and simulation

Responsibilities

About the Role

A well-established manufacturing facility in Welkom, Free State , is seeking a skilled Industrial Engineer with a specialization in plant layout and facility design. This role is crucial for optimizing the physical arrangement of production equipment, workstations, and material flow to maximize efficiency, safety, and throughput. The successful candidate will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and implementing new layouts, as well as improving existing ones. This is a hands-on position for an engineer who thrives on tangible improvements in the physical workspace, contributing directly to operational productivity and cost reduction. The role demands a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of ergonomic principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and redesign plant layouts to optimize material flow, minimize travel distances, and enhance space utilization.
• Develop 2D and 3D models and simulations of proposed layouts using CAD and simulation software.
• Analyze equipment requirements, workstation configurations, and production line balancing.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and safety teams to ensure functional and safe designs.
• Conduct ergonomic assessments and implement improvements to enhance worker safety and comfort.
• Specify equipment and infrastructure requirements for new or modified layouts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial engineering, with a significant focus on plant layout and facility design.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of material handling systems, production flow principles, and lean manufacturing concepts.
• Knowledge of ergonomic principles and safety standards in industrial environments.
• Excellent spatial reasoning and visualization skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Good project management and organizational skills.
