Job summary

POET is offering a Plant Engineering Intern position for Summer 2027 in Gowrie, IA. The role supports the Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager to maximize efficiency, troubleshoot processes, and develop predictive and preventative maintenance programs.

You will participate in data analysis, maintenance planning, and procedural improvements on a team-focused environment. The internship requires a high school diploma, enrollment in Chemical, Mechanical, or Agricultural Engineering, and a minimum

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Junior or Senior-level student enrolled full-time at an accredited 4-year college/university pursuing a degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Agricultural Engineering.
• Must be able to work a variety of shifts, minimum of 40 hours/week.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills, as well as the ability to adapt to change
• Knowledge of the basics of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new programs.
• Bonus points: familiarity or experience with DCS control and DCS historian systems

Responsibilities

• Work with Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager on operation/troubleshooting issues and to review predictive maintenance programs.
• Assist in development of preventative maintenance program and determine equipment, tools, and inspection frequencies.
• Help develop and strengthen plant operating procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality relating to projects and processes.
• Foster safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
• Promote teamwork and represent POET in the community.
