Job summary

POET is seeking a Plant Engineering Intern to work on site in Emmetsburg, IA. You will collaborate with the Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager to optimize plant operations and maintenance programs.

The role targets students in Chemical, Mechanical, or Agricultural Engineering, with 40 hours per week and a strong emphasis on safety, process optimization, and teamwork. Summer 2027 internship timeline is specified.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Junior or Senior-level student pursuing a degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Agricultural Engineering.
• Must be able to work a variety of shifts, minimum of 40 hours/week.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new programs.
• Bonus: familiarity with DCS control and DCS historian systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager to maximize plant efficiency.
• Support development of predictive and preventative maintenance programs.
• Work with maintenance dept and vendors on preventative maintenance program development.
• Help strengthen operating procedures and maintain confidentiality.
• Foster safe, compliant, and team-oriented work culture.
