Job description

We are seeking a Plant Engineer for JBS to ensure the reliability of plant equipment and to establish and meet downtime and operational goals. The ideal candidate will have experience in industrial maintenance and the food industry. This role is based in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Responsibilities:

• Manage training programs to maintain the skill levels of the workforce.
• Ensure compliance with plant safety programs while maintaining high labor efficiency.
• Involve maintenance personnel in HAACP reviews to improve food safety.
• Communicate closely with operations and other departments to understand plant performance issues.
• Assist in continuous plant improvement initiatives.
• Ensure reliable operation of utility systems, including steam, refrigeration, air compression, and electrical systems.
• Develop capital investment ideas to support plant profitability and organizational capability.
• Manage relationships with contractors and vendors.
• Evaluate performance of superintendents and foremen; take corrective actions as needed.
• Represent the plant’s needs in discussions with corporate engineering.
• Manage the storeroom efficiently.
• Develop a trusting relationship with USDA to meet their requirements.
• Participate in union contract negotiations and administration.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 10 years in industrial maintenance, with at least 5 years in food processing.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Extensive knowledge of ammonia refrigeration, steam, compressors, conveying systems, VFD controls, and sanitary maintenance.
• Effective people skills.
• Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
• Supervisory experience managing maintenance and utilities teams.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
• Resume required.
