Job summary

The School Board of Broward County, Florida seeks a certified inspector to ensure plan reviews and field inspections comply with Florida Building Codes and district standards. You will document findings with photos and reports to support quality control.

The role requires a Florida Plumbing Inspector and Plans Examiner certificate, strong contract-document interpretation, and the ability to coordinate with project teams within a dynamic educational facilities environment.

Qualifications

GED or approved GED program completed.
Must have 10 years of experience in the field in the last 15 years.
OR an associate degree with 8 years of experience in the field.
OR a bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience in the field.
Must hold a current Florida Plumbing Inspector and Plumbing Plans Examiner certificate (DBPR).
Experience interpreting contract documents, codes and regulations.
Proficient computer skills as required for the position.

Responsibilities

Perform plan review and inspections verifying compliance with Florida Building Codes and contract documents.
Inspect contractor's work to ensure compliance with contract documents, approved shop drawings, State Board of Education rules, all applicable codes, standards, and approved practices for quality control.
Prepare inspection reports documenting contractor compliance with contract requirements and applicable codes and standards.
Review construction documents to ensure compliance with contract documents, approved shop drawings, State Board of Education rules, all applicable codes, standards, and approved practices for quality control.
Monitor testing in the field (soil, concrete slump) and in the lab as required.
Observe inspections by authorities relative to work in rights-of-way or other project requirements.
Monitor project progress and report unacceptable work; provide reinspection and report corrections.
Conduct spot inspections to verify as-built drawings and variations from latest drawings/specifications.
Attend field meetings with project team as requested.
Assist in developing inspection checklists, protocols, guidelines and procedures.
Participate in district reviews of drawings, specifications, and other project documents.
Assist in inspecting/evaluating properties for district purchases/use.
Provide occupancy inspections and certifications as required by State Requirements for Educational Facilities.
Assist in solving field problems with Project Management.
Assist in monthly requisition meetings and verify work for payments.
Assist in preparing punch lists at milestones and final completion.
Assist in preparing Performance Evaluation Reports.
Attend day and evening meetings.
Provide information for pending litigations.
Ensure compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies.
