Job summary

IMEG is seeking a Planning Intern in New York, NY for a 10-12 week summer program. You will assist the planning team with research, GIS-based maps, and planning documents while engaging with public officials, developers, and community members on transportation, urban design, and environmental work in the Northeast.

The role offers a paid summer internship with a clear path to full-time opportunities, and requires working 10-12 weeks with hybrid schedule. Sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Completed at least 2 years toward a BS in Planning, Environment Studies, Architecture, or related field.
• Experience with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Adobe Suite, and SketchUp.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Assist with research on planning issues, including demographic trends, land use patterns, and environmental impacts.
• Help prepare maps, reports, and planning documents using GIS software and other tools.
• Participate in public meetings and workshops to gather community input and share information on planning initiatives.
• Assist in reviewing zoning applications and community plans for compliance with local regulations and ordinances.
• Conduct site visits to gather data and assess compliance with planning regulations.
• Work with public officials, developers, and community members to support planning projects.
• Help prepare reports and presentations that communicate planning proposals and findings to stakeholders.
• Support senior planners in managing planning projects and initiatives.
