Job summary

S.E.T., Inc is a heavy highway and civil contractor actively hiring Construction Laborers to join our crews in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania this season and beyond. The Pipelayer role focuses on installation and alignment of underground pipe for water, sewer, and drainage, working with equipment operators to meet plans and specs on active sites.

The job is physically demanding, performed outdoors, and requires reading plans, maintaining grade, and ensuring safety.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of pipelaying or underground utility experience.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather and site conditions.
• Ability to read basic construction plans and grade stakes.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to Greater Cleveland job sites.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• Experience with trench safety practices and OSHA excavation requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lay and align pipe in trenches according to blueprints and grade stakes.
• Prepare trench bedding and backfill per project specs and safety standards.
• Connect and seal pipe sections using couplings, gaskets, or fittings.
• Guide equipment operators during pipe placement with signals and communication.
• Install manholes, basins, valves, and appurtenances as required.
• Check pipe grade and alignment with laser levels or string lines.
• Identify utility conflicts and maintain safe work around underground utilities.
• Perform trench safety procedures and ensure OSHA compliance.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites; handle materials properly.
• Perform general labor duties such as shoveling and material handling.
• Communicate progress and site conditions with foreman and trades.
