Job summary

S. M. Hentges & Sons Inc. is seeking an experienced Union Pipelayer to join the Utility Pipe Crew in our highway heavy construction operations. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of underground utility installation experience, including storm sewer, water, and sanitary sewer systems.

Responsibilities include trenching, pipe setting, grading, and maintaining safety while coordinating with foremen and crew members on fast-paced projects. Union membership or willingness to join is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a pipelayer in utility/highway work.
• Proficient in reading blueprints, grades and project specs.
• Experience with trench boxes, shoring, and safety measures.
• Must be a union member in good standing or willing to join.

Responsibilities

• Install underground utility pipes (storm sewer, water, sanitary) per specs.
• Excavate, grade, and prep trenches with proper slope and alignment.
• Set, align, and seal pipes using appropriate materials.
• Work safely around heavy equipment and maintain tool readiness.
• Check slopes, elevations, and pipe grades with lasers and levels.
• Follow OSHA and company safety guidelines on site.
• Collaborate with foremen, operators, and laborers for efficient workflow.
• Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
